The Faded Line to support Conscious Alliance with an art print release

The Faded Line will release three highly anticipated art prints by artists Emek and Brad Klausen. The prints entitled Cybercycle, Cyberman, and Cloak & Veil are signed & numbered by the respective artist and screen printed on high quality Stonehenge fine art paper 250gsm.

Conscious Alliance, a Boulder-based nonprofit organization, provides healthy food to some of the poorest communities in the USA, most of which reside on American Indian reservations. One of CA's main goals is to involve young people, high school and college age, in ending hunger through music and art. The money raised by The Faded Line will directly benefit the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Pine Ridge has a population of about 40,000 and is roughly the size of Connecticut. They have an unemployment rate over 80% and about 97% of the population lives below Federal poverty levels. Healthcare is limited, schools are under-funded, and the teenage suicide rate is 150% higher than the national average. During the school year, students are provided with two government subsidized meals per day. With summer quickly approaching, families have to come up with an extra 10 meals a week per child. Due to the lack of resources, many families struggle to make ends meet, which leads to their children going unfed. Learn more about Conscious Alliance at www.consciousalliance.org.

Each batik is hand painted by a family in Bali. Upon arrival in the US, they are signed and numbered by Emek. No two batiks are the same! In addition to a wall hanging, some people frame the batiks or even wear as a sarong. Limit one per order.

The Carnivorus Musicalus was originally used on as the official event poster for the 2007 Coachella Music Festival - beautifully illustrated by Emek.

A portion of every sale will go towards new filtration systems. The family who makes each wall hanging by hand is paid very well and hopes you love our product!

The word batik (pronounced Bateek) means "wax written" and this is basically what batik is. It is a way of decorating cloth by covering part of it with a coat of wax and then dyeing the cloth. The waxed area keeps its original color and when the wax is removed the contrast between the dyed and undyed area makes the pattern. Big, bold designs in bright colors are most striking.

The fabric is 100% Indonesian rayon. Made from natural plant cellulose (in this case coconut fiber). The fiber is put through a process using alkaline, making into a woven fiber. It makes for a good durable textile. There are many different qualities of rayon and we only work with the highest quality.

The dyes are a colorfast - the same as the dyes used for any textiles. Unfortunately it is not a natural dye; as natural dyes will wear and fade very quickly. However, the dye baths go in to a filtration process being disposed which is a progressive environmental step for the people of Bali. All the dyes are hand blended to get the different shades. Then they are literally painted between the wax lines with paint brushes.

The Faded Line is proud to announce the release date of the limited edition silkscreen puzzles and wood art prints. They will drop online on Thursday 1/15 at a random time. Check www.thefadedline.com often!

Who doesn't like puzzles? We sure do though why not step it up a notch and create a limited edition puzzle!?! The SCREEN PRINTED puzzles measure 15 x 21.25 inches and are signed & numbered by artists Emek and Jeff Wood. Sorry, you'll have to put together each 513 piece beast in order to know what number you received. The jigsaw puzzle are $35.

The art prints are 18"x24" printed on 1/4 inch birch and maple sheets of wood. These prints are signed and numbered edition of 50 pieces per design and will cost $150 each. However, the opportunity to purchase prints is inclusive to only those purchasing puzzles. One must purchase a puzzle to be entered into a raffle to purchase the print. We will randomly select 50 people who can purchase the print in the coming weeks. When you add the puzzle to your cart, you will be asked to check a box that says YES you will allow us to charge your card $175 (includes shipping, handling, and insurance) or NO I'm not interested. The raffle corresponds to the specific puzzle you purchase. Say you want the MARSians print, you must purchase that puzzle to be entered into the drawing. Considering there are 165-170 puzzles in each edition, you have a 1 in 3 chance you will be selected. One puzzle per person per design. So yes, you could buy one of each puzzle and be entered into a raffle for each art print.

The Faded Line just finished production on 3 SILK SCREENED jigsaw puzzles. MARSians, Peacock, and OM Mantra are all limited edition, signed and numbered by artists Emek and Jeff Wood, respectively. At 15"x22" and 513 pieces, these will surely challenge even the advanced puzzler.

Artist Notes:
This is the first edition Black Light Electric Voodoo Fire is an 18" x 24" --10 color Black light screen print done in a street style painting technique on 130lb French Paper. This is limited small edition of 115 prints. It is a portrait of Jimi Hendrix from a sketch I did after being inspired by all the street art in the narrow alleys in Amsterdam . The piece was originally conceived as a painting. After completing the painting, I decided to do a small run of prints for my collectors. The first run done in non-black light Golden Acrylics sold
out in a matter of hours upon release.

I originally intended to do the piece as a "true black light" poster using fluorescent inks. "True black light" meaning a poster that is designed to look good under a black light as opposed to just a print with some fluorescent ink thrown in random places. All the ink was hand mixed using fluorescent pigments. The paper is loaded with optical brightener making it glow purple.This image comes alive under a black light!

The original image was painted using brushes, stencils and spray paint. Each color was hand painted separately on paper and then made into a film positive for screen printing. It was screen printed using hand mixed fluorescent inks resulting in extremely rich vibrant colors that literally vibrate off the page. I think I may be doing a series of black light posters. I wanted to do it years ago, but never got inspired. This print may have just done the trick.

Jim Flora (1914-1998) is renowned for his wild jazz and classical album covers for Columbia Records (1940s) and RCA Victor (1950s). He wrote and illustrated 17 popular children's books and flourished for decades as a magazine illustrator. Few realize, however, that Flora was also a prolific fine artist with a devilish sense of humor and a flair for juxtaposing playfulness, absurdity and mayhem.

His album covers pulsed with angular hepcats bearing funnel-tapered noses and shark-fin chins, guys who fingered cockeyed pianos and honked lollipop-hued horns. Flora wreaked havoc with the laws of physics, conjuring flying musicians, levitating instruments, and wobbly dimensional perspectives. He was not averse to pigmenting jazz legends like bedspread patterns. On some Flora figures, three legs and five arms were standard equipment, with spare eyeballs optional.

Flora has posthumously added The Faded Line Clothing Co. to his client roster: his estate, Jim Flora Art LLC, has authorized us to feature vintage Flora figures on a festive line of casual apparel. Flora once said that all he wanted to do was "create a little piece of excitement." He overshot his goal with much of his work. You will soon be able to wear that visual excitement.

A selection of Flora LP covers was published in The Mischievous Art of Jim Flora (Fantagraphics, 2004). A second book, The Curiously Sinister Art of Jim Flora (2007), features dozens of Flora's rarely seen early paintings, woodcuts, prints, sketches, and commercial assignments. Many Phish fans say their overall favorite Phish poster was done by Emek in 1995 for the show at CSU Convocation Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Considering the band's long history of highly collectable posters, that's a big compliment to Emek.

Jim Flora's art has appeared on record album covers, in magazines, in children's books, and on fine art prints. Soon it will appear on Faded Line apparel. We recently signed with Jim Flora Art LLC (heirs of the artist) to market a very cool line of t-shirts and hoodies featuring Flora's mischievous and curiously sinister art.

We're in production with the Cybercycle Gelaskins for iPods. There have been a couple delays and took WAY longer than we had expected, but they ARE signed and in production. Hopefully I'll have finished product within two weeks.

Also in production with a lycra magnet of Emek's Pheel Phree poster which was used on a SUPER collectable poster for Phish in 1995. They look great and should also be available around the same time as the skins.
